Basketball

Get the Details

  • Season: mid-January through February
  • Fee: $30 - Register with Lamar Parks and Recreation.
  • Registration Deadline: November 27, 2024 - Late registrations are not accepted.
  • Eligible Groups: 
    • 3rd/4th Grade Boys and Girls
    • 5th/6th Grade Boys and Girls

The 3rd and 4th Grade Basketball League will follow the NFHS Rules with the following exceptions:

Score will be kept.

  • All buckets are worth 2 points.
  • A 2-shot free throw will be 1 shot for 2 points.
  • A 1-shot free throw will be 1 shot for 1 point.

Participation

  • It is desired that every child get to play in at least half of the game. Although the coach cannot count every minute of their players' playing time, LP&R stresses the importance of fair playing time.

Game Time

  • Games will be 16-minute running halves. The game timer will start on or as close to the scheduled game time.
  • Time stops in the last minute of the 2nd half on all violations, fouls, and team timeouts.
  • Teams will have 2 timeouts per game.
  • Pregame warm-up will be 5 minutes long.
  • Halftime will be 3 minutes long.

Substitutions

  • May be made during a timeout or on an official's whistle.

Defensive Pressure

  • No pressing – Defensive pressure will only be allowed in the front court.

Equipment

  • All teams will use a size 5 ball.

Conduct

  • All participants, coaches, and spectators are required to use the best sportsmanship.
  • A technical foul will result in the participant sitting out the remainder of that game.
  • A second technical foul will result in the suspension of 1 game.
  • A third technical foul will result in suspension from the league.

Please ensure that fair play and good sportsmanship is maintained throughout the entire tournament. We are all here to have fun!
